The Shay Stadium looks very different to the one many people will remember from the early 1990's. A partially-complete programme of redevelopment, funded mostly by The Football Foundation, has seen a brand new covered terrace built behind each goal offering excellent views of the pitch. The North Stand was completed first, which enabled Halifax Town to return back to the Football League when it won the Vauxhall Conference in 1998. The South Stand was completed within the next year.

Home supporters who prefer to stand to take in the game use the South Stand. Away supporters are housed in the North Stand (although for the majority of rugby games away supporters share the South Stand and Skircoat Stand).

The North Stand - similar in structure and size to the South Stand

The Skircoat Stand is on the west side of the Shay and until the turn of the century it was half terracing, half seating but it is now an all seater stand.

The old Family Stand was demolished in the summer of 1999 to make way for the new East Stand. This, once completed, is to be the biggest structure at the Shay Stadium although delays have hampered progress with no date yet set for completion.

All three stands that are currently in use offer both toilet facilities and refreshment bars. For rugby games there are also two outside bars - one underneath the South Stand and one between the Skircoat and North Stands. The South Stand also comes complete with the South Stand Lounge, a more traditional pub for pre and post-match drinking.

The capacity of the stadium with just the three stands in use is 6,561 which is made up thus; 1,020 in the North Stand (which will increase with improved toilet facilities), 3,211 in the South Stand and 2,330 seated in the Skircoat Stand.
